In this method, oils are mixed with an alkali and then hand poured into block molds to form bars. When the oils and alkali combine, a natural process called saponification occurs, producing soap. Glycerin is also produced during the process of soap formation. It is possible to separate the glycerin from the soap, and because it has value, the glycerin is often removed and sold separately.
