Product label says 4.25 ounces. I got 3.9 ounces, and that was after I put the packaging back on the scale. (I did, of course, zero the scale with the paper towel already on it--both to be fair and not get tar soap on my scale.) I even checked my scale with a reference weight to make sure it was accurate. At $7.99 a bar, getting short-changed 8% is a big deal to me. The smell upon opening was pretty tame for a tar soap, but once I showered with it, it started to give off a nice smoky smell. (My 20% pine tar bar makes the whole bathroom smell like a campfire pit, and this is a bit more subdued. I imagine my wife will appreciate that.) Not a great lather. Not terrible. but not great. It felt a little sticky on the skin after rinsing. I'm not factoring those things into my rating because this is my first bar soap with actual coal tar in it. I have real coal tar shampoo, and I have 20% pine tar bar soap, but bar soap with actual coal tar (and not just added coal tar fragrance) is really hard to find. This is my first go with it, so maybe that is just part of the deal with coal tar. Anyway, at this point I would give the soap itself a 4.25, and the deficit in product weight a 2.75, for a grand total rating of 3.5.Final note: Most of the tar soaps out there are kind of joke. If it doesn't smell like your clothes do after sitting out at a smoky campfire all night, it probably doesn't have much, if any, tar in it. This triple tar passes the smell test and appears to have enough of the active ingredients to be therapeutic. That's a big deal, since most of the soap makers out there use the term pine tar interchangeably with pine essential oil, which, although smells great, really doesn't do much else. This is the real deal. If you are expecting a soap that smells like pine tree, perfume, or commercial soaps, don't buy this. This is for those that are familiar with real tar soaps. The coal tar in the mix was a big bonus. I will update after a few weeks of using it if I have any other thoughts, but I am overall happy with the soap.
