I came across this soap a couple of years ago and decided to try it out for my oily/acne-prone skin. To this day, I still struggle with adult acne. So why the five star review?, you might be wondering. Well, my diet is absolute garbage. Too much sugar and dairy, which is known to cause acne around the jaw/chin area. However, that has nothing to do with this product. Keep this in mind, however.Details about my skin and self: Combination skin (oily in T-zone, can be prone to dryness); always have a blemish or two on my face, usually chin or jawline; 24 years old; Caucasian, extremely fair; prone to redness.It looks a bit funky, as you may tell from the photo above. My Dad saw it and thought it was tar. Tar! Nope, just some good old natural African Black Soap. But don't be off-put by its appearance. It may not be in a fancy jar or have a pretty color or consistency, but it's good for its effectiveness.Some people say that it doesn't really have a smell, but if you stick your nose in it, it does have an... earthy scent to it. At first. I hated it, but now I can tolerate it. It doesn't have to smell good, it just has to clean my skin!Like others have mentioned, to use this product, you should only take a small amount, like a fourth of the surface area of a dime (more if using it for your hair or body -- this is how much I use on just my face), with wet hands, and work it around into a lather in your hands before applying it to your face. It took a couple of tries before I found this method and it seems to be the most efficient.The actual product does a wonderful job of cleansing the skin! The best I've seen; I'll never use a product full of chemicals for washing my face again. This stuff really works and makes your skin feel nice and smooth after cleansing. For me, personally, if I don't moisturize immediately after, my face will get a) dry and tight, and b) oily within hours. Not a sexy feeling. So moisturizer is a really important thing to add to your skincare routine if you're using or plan to use this product. I noticed that once I'd cleansed at night with this soap and moisturized, my face was significantly less oily the next morning.I bought this product originally about two years ago and have NOT needed to reorder it! Even now I have enough for a few months and I can start to see the bottom of the tub a bit. It lasts forever. You really, really get your money's worth on this product. I'll be repurchasing it personally if no one gifts it to me this holiday season (I added it to my Xmas list)!Keeping all of this in mind, not all skin is created equal. Some people can eat like crap, use this product, and their acne is history. Or maybe some of these reviewers have a healthy or balanced diet but are known to get a pimple or two once in a while, and this product gets rid of it for them. I'm not one of these people. I did notice this product helped REDUCE the amount of acne I would typically get in comparison to my skin before this product was in my life, but with my diet the way it is, this product CANNOT work miracles. You have to take care of your skin from the inside, too, not just the outside. Time to make a change, and with this product in my arsenal, I know that I can beat off this acne! Definitely would recommend to all of my friends and family and even you strangers reading this if you're looking to achieve the same goals. Good luck and BUY THIS PRODUCT!
